Miriam Coffey Bio

Miriam discovered her love for textiles at a young age and went on to study textile arts at the Maryland College of Art, where she taught herself to sew—and never looked back.

Her career spans fashion design, quilt shop management, co-owning a longarm quilting business, textile sales, and now serving as a Janome Educator. Her work has appeared on Fresh Quilting, in published articles, and in the Modern Quilt Guild’s Modern Quilts, Best of the New Century. She has earned multiple awards, including QuiltCon honors, Best in Show at the Asheville Quilt Show, and a 1st place blue ribbon at AQS Paducah.

In 2024, Janome selected Miriam to lead an exchange program in Tokyo, where she taught Memory Craft 9480 classes at Janome headquarters, toured the factory, and connected with quilters from around the world.

Miriam loves helping makers push past perceived skill limits, especially through improvisational piecing and modern embroidery techniques. She uses embroidery to add texture to fabric before piecing, creating dimension that has become a signature part of her quilting style.
